The myth of prosperity from growth at the community level is still very firmly embedded in the hearts and minds of politicians, most of the general public and – yes, even journalists. I felt a pang of sadness Monday when Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton announced they’re expecting a third child. A day later I was glad to learn others shared my reaction. Wait, what?!
You might think the biggest threat to human civilization, or at least to a comfortable life, is climate change. It’s not, and Richard Heinberg makes the Wall of Fame today for clearly articulating this. He gets extra credit for putting technology in its place (not our savior) in this piece originally published in Ecowatch, but better headlined here at postcarbon.org:

Ed puts the rest of the Hollywood celebrities and rock stars to shame by being the first and only to lend his face, name and wonderful sense of humor to one of the most important, but also most untouchable, causes on planet Earth.
