You might think the biggest threat to human civilization, or at least to a comfortable life, is climate change. It’s not, and Richard Heinberg makes the Wall of Fame today for clearly articulating this. He gets extra credit for putting technology in its place (not our savior) in this piece originally published in Ecowatch, but better headlined here at postcarbon.org:

Columnist Robert J. Samuelson has made the Wall of Shame here before, so I’m glad to confer Wall of Fame status today. I must admit it’s not richly deserved, but this is a start:

I’ve heard a lot of talk about “economic growth” this morning on a cable news network. Politicians want to keep historically high levels of immigration into the U.S. in order to grow the economy. The folly of that line of reasoning is subject for another day, but the folly of our obsession with economic growth gets its turn now.

While most politicians promise, pursue, and extoll the virtues of economic growth, they generally shy away from public admissions they’re chasing population growth to get it.
