A cute, and slightly saucy, Volkswagen commercial makes the Wall of Shame today because it perpetuates an outdated and dangerous norm – the big, happy family. I have no problems with happy families. It’s the size of family that matters now, and matters in this commercial:
Growth boosters and profiteers have little trouble finding outlets for their pro-growth propaganda. Newspapers and other media companies profit from population growth because ad rates increase with the number of eyeballs. It’s easy to spot someone who’s been programmed from birth to believe there is a pot of gold at the end of the growth rainbow. When they write about economic or population growth, it’s simply assumed that more is good, faster is better, and there is no question or debate about that.
